The negotiation process concerning the extradition treaty between the EU und the USA in the light of realism.

This article analyzes the negotiations between the European Union and the United States concerning a new treaty, complementary to the existing bilateral agreements on extradition. From a realist perspective, the author builds a model for measuring the costs each side of the negotiations had to bear in order to ratify the treaty. She comes to the conclusion, that these costs were much higher for the European Union than for the US - which is consistent with the realist assumption, that the difference of power between the parties determines the outcome of negotiations.
